Stock market today:
Nifty50 and
BSE Sensex, the Indian equity benchmark indices, continued their upward trajectory for the fourth straight day on Tuesday, supported by strong performance in leading bank stocks and domestic institutional buying.
The NSE Nifty finished at 25,108.30, increasing by 30.65 points or 0.12 per cent. The BSE Sensex concluded at 81,926.75, rising by 136.63 points or 0.17 per cent following volatile trading. During the session, it reached a high of 82,309.56, up by 519.44 points or 0.63 per cent.
Among Sensex components, positive performers included Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech, UltraTech Cement, Power Grid, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel and ICICI Bank.
Conversely, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, Trent and Infosys showed declines.
In Asian trading, Japan's Nikkei 225 finished positively, whilst Chinese and South Korean markets remained closed for holidays.
European markets showed mixed performance, while US markets largely ended higher.
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, decreased by 0.15 per cent to USD 65.37 per barrel.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 313.77 crore on Monday, whilst Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) purchased stocks valued at Rs 5,036.39 crore, as per exchange data.
On Monday, the Sensex had advanced by 582.95 points or 0.72 per cent to close at 81,790.12, whilst the Nifty had gained 183.40 points or 0.74 per cent to reach 25,077.65.
