Stock market today: Nifty50 ends above 24,800; BSE Sensex rises over 300 points
Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, recovered on Thursday following a two-day decline, reflecting gains in global markets after a US court halted President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs.
The NSE Nifty advanced 81.15 points or 0.33 per cent to 24,833.60, experiencing sharp fluctuations on expiry day before closing higher. Metal, realty, pharma and IT sectors led the gains.
The BSE Sensex rose 320.70 points or 0.39 per cent to close at 81,633.02 in a volatile trading session with monthly derivatives expiry. During trading, it reached 81,816.89, up 504.57 points or 0.62 per cent.
IndusInd Bank shares rose 2.41 per cent following Sebi's action against former CEO Sumant Kathpalia and four senior officials, barring them from securities markets over alleged insider trading.
Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Eternal, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra and Axis Bank showed positive performance.
Bajaj Finance, ITC, Bajaj Finserv and Asian Paints declined during the session.
Markets welcomed the US federal court's ruling against President Donald Trump's reciprocal import tariffs.
"Global markets improved after the US court's decision on Trump's reciprocal tax policy. The domestic market remained constrained by rising oil prices and higher US bond yields. F&O expiry-led covering boosted late session recovery.
"IT and Pharma sectors benefited from potential trade tension reduction," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited.

FMCG was the sole declining sector.
The BSE saw 2,022 advancing stocks, 1,954 declining and 135 unchanged.
Asian markets showed strength with gains in South Korea's Kospi, Japan's Nikkei 225, Shanghai's SSE Composite and Hong Kong's Hang Seng. European markets traded higher while US markets closed lower on Wednesday.
FIIs purchased equities worth Rs 4,662.92 crore on Wednesday, as per exchange data.
The Reserve Bank indicated India would maintain its position as the fastest-growing major economy through FY26.
Industrial production growth decreased to 2.7 per cent in April 2025, affected by manufacturing, mining and power sector performance.
