Stock market today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, the Indian equity benchmark indices, ended in green on Wednesday primarily due to substantial investments in the infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro.
The NSE Nifty, consisting of 50 shares, increased by 33.95 points or 0.14 per cent to 24,855.05. The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, advanced by 143.91 points or 0.18 per cent to close at 81,481.86. Throughout the session, it fluctuated within a narrow range, reaching a peak of 81,618.96, up by 281.01 points or 0.34 per cent.
Analysts noted that uncertainties surrounding the US trade agreement and overseas fund withdrawals limited the market's upward movement.
Larsen & Toubro saw a significant increase of 4.87 per cent after reporting a 29.8 per cent growth in consolidated net profit at Rs 3,617.19 crore in the June quarter, supported by robust international order growth.
Other companies showing positive performance included Sun Pharma, NTPC, Maruti, Bharti Airtel, Trent and Axis Bank.
Conversely, Tata Motors, Power Grid, Eternal, Bajaj Finserv and Hindustan Unilever experienced declines.
Data from the exchange showed Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 4,636.60 crore on Tuesday.
"No, it's not," US President Donald Trump stated when questioned about the finalisation of the India trade deal. He spoke to journalists on Tuesday aboard Air Force One whilst returning to Washington from Scotland.
When asked about reports suggesting India's preparation for increased US tariffs between 20-25 per cent, Trump responded, "I think so."
"Markets operated within a confined range and finished slightly higher amidst mixed signals. The Nifty fluctuated within narrow limits throughout the session before settling at 24,855.05," stated Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd.
In Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined, while South Korea's Kospi and Shanghai's SSE Composite showed gains.
European markets displayed mixed trends, while US markets closed lower on Tuesday.
