Stock market holiday today: Indian stock markets will suspend operations on Wednesday, August 27 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. This represents the second market holiday in August, following the earlier closure on August 15 for Independence Day celebrations, apart from the routine weekend offs.
Operations at both BSE and NSE will cease completely for the day, affecting all trading segments including equities, derivatives, and SLB operations. Regular trading activities will commence the following day, August 28.
For commodity trading, MCX will operate partially, remaining closed during morning hours but resuming evening operations. NCDEX, which primarily handles agricultural commodities trading, will observe a complete shutdown for the day.
These scheduled interruptions can potentially affect market behaviour upon reopening, as traders process global market developments that occurred during the closure. Investors typically monitor international indicators, including US market performance and global commodity prices, which influence local trading patterns upon resumption.
This closure coincides with Trump's additional 25 per cent tariffs that are set to go into effect on the same day.
