Sify CEO Ramaraj calls it a day
PUNE: After over a decade with Sify, an Internet, network and e-commerce provider, its MD and CEO Rajashekar Ramaraj is moving out to do what he does best, guide start-ups and early-stage firms to success.
"I have identified four start-ups in the area of leading edge technology and will be involved in building them up. I would also be working with the venture capital funds to identify start-ups to mentor and fund," said 57-year-old Ramaraj.

Tuesday was his last day at Sify. He had joined the company in August 1996, but was associated with it a few months prior to that as an adviser.
In the last 22-years, Ramaraj has been involved in setting-up a series of businesses using new technologies, innovative products and services.
From 1992-96, he was heading a cellular start-up, Sterling Cellular, which successfully bid for the Delhi circle licence when mobile telephony was first introduced in the country.
He had also co-founded Microland, an IT and network services company, along with Pradeep Kar. Before that, he had established Computer Point in 1984, a retail-chain that pioneered in selling computers as consumer durables, just a year after the PC revolution in US.
He said there was a lot of venture capital money available in the market and if these start-ups do not scale-up now, these enterprises might miss the bus. He also feels that this would give him a lot of variety to work with.
Ramaraj, however, is not planning to join any of the start-ups and is going to be involved completely in an advisory capacity. Planning their strategy and bringing in funds by working with the VCs would be his focus."My task here is done. We have brought the company to a certain level."
