RIL appoints former SBI chief Arundhati Bhattacharya as independent director

NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has appointed former State Bank of India (SBI) chief Arundhati Bhattacharya as an independent director of the company. The RIL board has named "Bhattacharya as an additional director of the company, designated as an independent director."
Former SBI chief's appointment will be for a period of "five years commencing from October 17, 2018, subject to approval of the shareholders," the company said in a notification to the exchanges.
Bhattacharya has nearly 40 years of experience in India's financial sector working. She was the first woman chairperson of the SBI.
Last week, equity firm ChrysCapital had named Bhattacharya as an advisor.
