NEW DELHI: The Advani group-promoted Renaissance Goa Resort has been renamed Ramada Caravela Beach Resort Goa. The rechristening, which aims at capitalising on the resort’s beachfront location, follows Advani’s erstwhile partner Marriott International’s decision to manage all the Renaissance brand properties.
This decision prompted the Advani group to use another brand from the Marriott family — Ramada Resorts — and continue as a franchisee.
The Ramada chain was introduced in India by Sunder G Advani, who had later floated a JV with Ramada and developed the Ramada Renaissance Hotel in Goa. Though the foreign partner had invested in equity, the management control remained with the Advani group.
Later, the Ramada and Renaissance brands were acquired by Marriott. Since Marriott does not invest in a venture without management contract, it sold off Ramada’s holding in the property to Advani. Today, Ramada resorts are prominent in destinations like Bali, Dominican Republic, Mexico besides the UK and Germany.
