CHENNAI: Reliance General Insurance (RGI), a unit of Reliance Capital, has partnered with Child Rights & You (CRY) to raise public awareness and fight against child labour as India employs 5.8 million children for physical labour, the highest incidence among other South Asian countries. Reliance General Insurance has launched a Twitter campaign #DONT_EMPLOY_LITTLE_ONES. The campaign invites people to take a pledge and fight against child labour by tweeting with the hashtag #DONT_EMPLOY_LITTLE_ONES. Participants will then be invited to the campaign page – http://www.cry.org/microsite/acl-onm2016/index.html to make a contribution to CRY towards this cause. “Millions of children in India, engaged in labour, are battling minimum wages, long working hours, suffering abuse and exploitation and being brutally deprived of their basic rights. In the urban set up, child labour has drastically increased by 53% in the last decade. Reaching out to the masses, we are hoping that they will pledge their support and take up responsibility at an individual level to ensure children receive education in schools and are not engaged in labour,” said Anita Bala Sharad, director, CRY.
