NEW DELHI: Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday said some

predatory pricing

is happening in airfares and other airlines can shut down if it continues.

Addressing a press briefing, Puri said while the ministry had no plans of regulating fares, it has to happen within parameters of deregulation.

"We need to bring equilibrium within the market. Can't say predatory pricing is the only reason of ill health of airlines, it is one of the reasons. After discussion with airlines, the trend of predatory pricing has reduced. Our advice to airlines is to charge realistic fares," he said.

He is right. India, and also other countries do not have the advantage of oil fields. US and Arabia is cheap (predatory) because they got the free fuel/energy. It helps the consumer. Tough, India has a good Southern location close to the south Pole. One can use this to dominate the southern Hemisphere. Ie. International flights from South America, Southern Africa, Indonesia/Bali, Australia/Fiji, Sanfranciso /California USA.Sometimes we can have a merger with another international partner. It will boost profits for both countries. Maybe, merge with southern Africa, and Southern America.
