Centre has decided to give the textile industry more time to join its flagship production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, extending the deadline for fresh applications to December 31.
The move follows what officials described as an “encouraging” response from the sector after the latest round of applications opened in August 2025, PTI reported. Strong proposals have come in from makers of Man-Made Fibre (MMF) Apparel, MMF Fabrics, and Technical Textiles.
"Encouraged by the growing industry interest, the government is offering another opportunity to prospective investors to participate and benefit from the scheme," the textiles ministry said in a statement.
The ministry noted that the extension reflects industry confidence in domestic textile manufacturing and growing market demand for synthetic and specialised fabric categories.
The PLI scheme for textiles was first notified on September 24, 2021. Its aim is to promote large-scale production of MMF apparel, fabrics, and technical textile products, enabling the industry to achieve size and scale, strengthen competitiveness, generate employment, and build sustainable enterprises.
So far, 74 companies with investment commitments totalling Rs 28,711 crore have already been approved as beneficiaries under the scheme.
