Ola Electric chief technology and product officer Suvonil Chatterjee resigns
BENGALURU: Ola Electric Mobility lost another key management personnel with Chief Technology and Product Officer Suvonil Chatterjee calling it quits, sources familiar with the matter told TOI. Chatterjee is viewed as the second-most influential figure in the company, with the first being founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal. “It has been a while since he put his papers to Bhavish. The company held back on announcing it since they have been unable to look for a replacement,” one of the sources told TOI.
The source added that the company, however, was planning to make the news public sometime this week. Aggarwal did not respond to TOI’s query on the matter. A spokesperson was not immediately available to respond to a query. “For Chatterjee to fully exit will take some time given how he is tied up across several Ola group of companies,” another source added.
Chatterjee, formerly Flipkart's design lead, was Ola Electric's CTPO since 2021. He was responsible for building Ola Krutrim and Ola Maps in significant capacities – products that Aggarwal touted as disrupters to Microsoft and Google respectively earlier in the year. A BITS Pilani graduate, Chatterjee first began work with Aggarwal in 2017 as Ola's mainstay cab business' head of design. In 2021, he was promoted to chief product officer, and in 2022, he became its chief technology and product officer.
Aggarwal’s co-founder at Ola and former chief technology officer Ankit Bhati quit the firm in 2019. In October this year, Ola Electric also lost another key management personnel, Pramendra Tomar, its company secretary and compliance officer, who resigned citing personal reasons and commitments. Ola Electric added that it is in the process of appointing a new candidate for the position of company secretary. The company said then that it was in the process of hiring a replacement. Sources told TOI that a replacement has not been found yet.
The back-to-back resignations add to many similar instances at the company over recent years, now more so after the EV maker’s shares struggle at the stock exchanges with its price dipping below the Rs 100 mark over the months. The stock closed at Rs 93.30, down about a percent, on the NSE on Thursday.
