Nokia unveils Windows 8 Lumia smartphones

The firm launched two smartphones - Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 - on a Windows 8 platform as part of their strategy to penetrate markets in China, India and South America.

NEW YORK: Nokia on Wednesday launched their latest product line in a bid to get a slice of the crowded smartphone market. The firm launched two smartphones - Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 - on a Windows 8 platform as part of their strategy to penetrate markets in China, India and South America. Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, said the latest smartphones from the company would serve as an "alternative to faceless black and grey mono blocks that you see out there".

Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer termed the launch as an "important milestone" in the tie-up between the two companies. Elop said Nokia aims to launch the Lumia 920 in select markets in the fourth quarter but did not give a price for the product.
Apart from offering powerful camera and innovative local city search options, Lumia 920 boasts of wireless charging capability among many other smart options including social media connectivity.
