Must educate young girls about changes they will experience during puberty: Priyanka Raina
Priyanka Raina, Founder - Maate, Gracia Raina Foundation, on Thursday said that it’s important to educate young girls about the changes their body will experience during puberty and adolescence so they have adequate awareness.
Speaking at TOI’s Right To Excellence Women’s Day Special Summit, Priyanka said, “Through my foundation, we do a lot of educational campaigns for women about their reproductive health. When we were doing these campaigns around reproductive health, we figured, it needs to start way before. So we introduced a program which is about adolescence because it needs to start when your body starts changing.”
She added that families need to start speaking openly to young girls about the physical and emotional changes they might undergo around adolescence. Priyanka said, “This education is very very important. It starts from home. We need to start talking to young girls about everything they’re going to experience in a short span of time because they’re going to be entering puberty. That is where we need to really focus and we need to start that very early.”
Talking about the number of changes a woman undergoes during her lifetime from puberty to menopause, Priyanka said that every phase has its own challenges and health issues. That’s why it’s imperative that women are fully aware of their bodies.
She advised women to take their health seriously and focus on themselves first.
