Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev convened on Friday to explore ways to bolster bilateral agricultural cooperation, with both nations showing willingness to establish a formal memorandum of understanding.
The leaders gathered at Krishi Bhawan to discuss increasing agricultural trade relations, specifically focusing on boosting India's agricultural exports to Russia.
The agriculture ministry, quoted by PTI, reported that Chouhan highlighted India's primary sector objectives, including food security assurance, improvement of farmers' earnings, and promotion of nutritious food accessibility. "The exemplary level of mutual trust and understanding characterises the longstanding partnership between India and Russia," Chouhan stated, referencing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam to highlight the significance of global collaboration for agricultural welfare and food security.
Patrushev acknowledged the strong bilateral relations across various sectors, including agriculture, and expressed Russia's desire to strengthen agricultural trade connections. He showed keen interest in establishing a formal partnership through an MoU.
The talks concentrated on achieving balanced trade and enhancing technical collaborations. India stressed the need for better market accessibility for its agricultural products in Russia and showed confidence in addressing pending matters.
The nations agreed to strengthen academic collaboration and student scholarship programmes, whilst developing joint ventures in seed traceability systems to advance technological agricultural solutions.
Patrushev's visit to India is preparatory to Russian President Vladimir Putin's scheduled December visit.
