Meme fest in India as Sunak becomes UK PM
BENGALURU: It was a meme fest on social media as Rishi Sunak made history as Britain's first Indian-origin prime minister. There were memes on bringing the Kohinoor back to India, on bringing Infosys to 10, Downing Street, and there are congratulatory messages with Ashish Nehra's pictures alongside Sunak’s as they resemble one another.
One of the tweets read, “Infosys acquires Britain not by law, but by in law.”
Another one said, “Rishi Sunak to be the next Conservative Party leader and prime minister of the UK.
Well done Ashish Nehra on becoming the next UK Prime Minister. Bring 'IT' home. #RishiSunakPM"
Yet another read, "Rishi Sunak ko India bulake Ashish Nehra ko London bhejdo woh aapna Kohinoor wapas layega." There was also: "Rishi Sunak and Ashish Nehra seem to be brothers who were estranged in Kumbh Ka Mela. #Rumor."
And then there were serious ones. Jonathan Levin, dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB), where Sunak got an MBA degree as a Fulbright Scholar, said: “On behalf of GSB, I want to express our collective pride that a member of our community has become the head of state."
The dean said Rishi acted on his dream by going into public service. “His ethos of civic-mindedness, and a desire to use his skills to advance the greater good, will serve him well as he prepares to lead Britain. On behalf of Stanford and the GSB, I wish him all the best,” he wrote in a post that was tweeted.
