Meghmani Finechem commissions India’s first Epichlorohydrin plant
AHMEDABAD: Chlor-Alkali manufacturing giant, Meghmani Finechem Limited (
An estimated 80% of ECH is consumed for manufacturing of epoxy resin which is further used in industries such as paint, automotives, construction material, windmill, adhesives and electronics, among others. The remaining consumption goes towards various applications in the pharma sector, water treatment and paper chemical makers.
At present, ECH is completely imported and therefore, setting up of MFL’s plant will help consumers reduce import- dependence. According to industry estimates, Indian ECH demand is around 80 kilo tonnes per annum.
Commenting on the commissioning of ECH plant, Maulik Patel, chairman and managing director, MFL said, “We have commissioned India’s very first ECH plant based on Glycerol process where major raw material, glycerine, is 100% renewable resource. Due to this, there will be lower consumption of energy and water and will be saving on carbon footprint.”
“We are moving in the direction of being a multi-product company and this will increase revenue contribution from the derivative segment. This will further strengthen our fully integrated complex, as part of the raw material for ECH will be available within the plant itself,” Patel added.
