Lucas TVS forays into green consumer durables market
CHENNAI: Auto electricals and EV parts major Lucas TVS is aggressively foraying into the white goods consumer durables market.
According to sources in the industry, the company is planning to launch a range of power-efficient green consumer durables in categories like fans, mixers and grinders and others.
It will be badged TVS Green. Currently, the branding and marketing work is on. The final announcement of the entire range and other details of the diversification is likely in the second quarter of financial year 2025-26. The company is pitching its tech-USP as Green Heart Technology.
When contacted, a company spokesman replied that the company did not wish to share any details at this point in time.
Lucas TVS currently manufactures electric motors and compressors for a range of white goods. It makes BLDC motor for refrigerator compressor, AC indoor unit motor, AC outdoor unit motor, AC compressor, refrigerator compressor, water pump and motors for washing machines. It also manufactures ceiling fans and railway coach fans.
This foray, once under way, will make Lucas TVS a B2C company as well as a B2B one. It will be the second company in the larger TVS group apart from TVS Motor to be a B2C company.
Already the company has launched a range of power efficient ceiling fans, exhaust fans and portable fans with BLDC motor under the TVS Green badge. Sources say other products will follow in the next 12-18 months.
In 2021, the company participated in the PLI scheme for white goods to make motors for fridges, washing machines, ACs and other durables. At that time the company had said it would invest Rs 100 crore every year on non-lithium ion battery related businesses.
Post the PLI scheme participation, the company now has five major businesses – electric mobility, automotive solutions, non-automotive solutions, consumer and industrial solutions and aftermarket solutions.
It is not clear exactly what kind of investment the company is planning to pump into the white goods diversification.
