NEW DELHI: Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie launched Kautilya Today, a compilation of columnist Jairam Ramesh’s essays on economic developments over a span of four years.
Kicking off an evening of jocular barbs, Shourie — in the spotlight over the troubled selloff attempts of public sector oil majors — said while not agreeing with all that Ramesh has to say, his views on economic issues have have to be appreciated in the context of ongoing debate in the country.
Shourie said that fresh viewpoints were the need of the hour at a time reforms was bogged down by petty details. It is important, Shourie said, to stop wasting time with ‘brilliant ideas’ that have no basis in reality in order to push ahead quickly.
Ramesh—the secretary of the economic affairs of the Congress Party, and a columnist with the Times Of India—said that an opportunity to forge a concensus on reforms has been lost.
