HYDERABAD: Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan on Saturday hailed the rich contributions made by former RBI governor M Narasimhan towards the planning and growth of Indian economy.

hyderabad: reserve bank of india governor bimal jalan on saturday hailed the rich contributions made by former rbi governor m narasimhan towards the planning and growth of indian economy. jalan was speaking after releasing the book economic reforms: development and finance authored by narasimhan at administrative staff college of india (asci) here. terming the book penned by narasimhan, who is now the chairman, court of governors of asci, as "extraordinary", jalan said he had read the book with avid interest and found it to be a rich repository of events and experiences that marked country's economy including the "stressful" period of 1990s.
"the book not only talks about the economy and financial sectors of india but also gives a comprehensive account of other social sectors like education and health", he added. speaking on the occasion, narasimhan said the volume, a collection of lectures delivered over the last 10-15 years, reflects the evolution of thinking with regard to economic and development policy issues, starting with a strong plea for moving towards a less rigorous planning system and advocating greater scope for initiative to economic agents in investment and production and greater use of market and price mechanism. asci principal e a s sharma, deputy governor of rbi y y reddy and managing director of ubs publishers and distributors sukumar das were also present on the occasion.
