It was a wonderful experience for children in Bengaluru recently when they put pen to paper, rekindling the joy and importance of handwriting in a world where writing has moved onto a digital platform. To celebrate this timeless value, Pilot Pen India (PPIN), in association with
The Times of India, organised a creative challenge, Ink Your Inspiration.
It was a platform that gave students the opportunity to express their creativity through expression and critical thinking.Teachers and school principals opined that the competition provided an excellent opportunity for young minds to think beyond textbooks and offer imaginative solutions. The exercise brought out a range of ideas from participating children, with each submission reflecting individual perspectives and thoughtful engagement with the theme.
“Reaching 140 schools with the K&L and TOI School Activation Program in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata has been a massive success. An outstanding initiative that delivered both impact and visibility,” said Hiroki Kisaichi, Managing Director, Pilot Pen India.
Logical reasoning
Students were seen building stories around a curated topic. The exercise required them to combine logical reasoning with a grounded sense of imagination. The stories developed from their storyboards reflected creativity expressed through structure, tone, and perspective. Each submission had a distinct look and feel, shaped by fresh ideas and varied approaches.
The judging process was made challenging by the diversity of stories and the distinct narrative styles presented by students. The winners, who received special gift hampers from PPIN, stood out for their creativity and commitment to writing. All participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their efforts.
Shared passion for storytelling
The ideas flowed once students took the pen in their hands. The Ink Your Inspiration campaign helped create a spark of ideas for students of tomorrow whose minds were ignited with the passion to put words on paper. The campaign successfully brought together a diverse group of young writers from different backgrounds, all united by a shared passion for storytelling.
It not only provided a space for creative expression but also cultivated critical thinking and encouraged young minds to explore and expand their writing abilities.
Schools were selected based on their strong academic reputation. Students who were identified were active participants in writing, arts and other co-curricular activities with equal representation across genders. In addition, there was a balance between premier and emerging schools.
“Ink Your Inspiration gave our students a meaningful platform to express their thoughts freely. Activities like this nurture creativity, confidence, and the joy of self-expression, skills that are essential beyond the classroom,” said Vidya Guruprasad Principal, Ryan International School.
Enthusiastic participation
The participation across four cities in India was encouraging, with 54,000 students from 140 schools in the race, according to PPIN. Six winners from each school from different age groups were awarded goodies from Pilot Pen India and a winner certificate.
Some schools also conducted flash fiction challenges, including a 100-word story exercise designed to test creativity within a limited format. Students with strong handwriting were also recognised with awards.
This marked the second edition of Ink Your Inspiration, a competition that invited children to express themselves through writing. The initiative focused on pen-and-paper activities as a medium for creativity, expression, mindfulness, and cognitive development.
“The event was one that encouraged us to think more. We learnt how much we can imagine, and new stories were formed,” said Varsha Yadav, a student of Rashtriya Military School.
“Once in a while, doing something like this really helps. Thank you for organizing this event, it nurtures creativity, encourages us to write, and gives us a truly great experience,” said Jigun, a student of St. Thomas Indian School.
