'India's got big problems': Trump hints at 'phase-2, phase-3' of 'sanctions' over Russian oil purchase - watch
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday hinted at "phase-2 and phase-3" of what he called "sanctions" on India, highlighting his past warning that New Delhi "got big problems" if it did not stop buying Russian oil. He further claimed that imposing additional 25% tariffs on India cost Russia "billions of dollars."
"That cost hundreds of billions of dollars to Russia, you call that no action? Then I have not done Phase-2 yet or Phase-3... Two weeks ago, I said if India buys, India has got big problems, and that's what happens," he said.
Earlier he had said that he was open to signing trade deal with India, claiming again that New Delhi had offered a "no tariff" deal.
"China kills us with tariffs, India kills us with tariffs, Brazil kills us with tariffs. I've understood tariffs better than they did; I understood tariffs better than any human beings in the world. India was the most highly tariffed nation in the world, and you know what, they've offered me no tariffs in India anymore. No tariffs. If I didn't have tariffs, they would never make that offer. So you have to have tariffs," Donald Trump said on The Scott Jennings Radio Show, according to an ANI report.
Trump’s move to slap 50% tariffs on India has drawn fire in US political circles, especially after an appeals court ruled the duties unlawful.
