'India, Israel should seek 10x jump in trade'

NEW DELHI: As part of the India-Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEEC), Israel is preparing to connect Haifa with Beit She'an, while seeking changes in its agreement with Saudi Arabia for the multi-country logistics project. The corridor, which starts from India's west coast will connect the UAE through the sea route before passing through the Saudi Arabia and Jordan. While an agreement was signed in September 2023, the Gaza conflict delayed it.

"Each country is preparing its part of IMEEEC, we are certainly at it. It creates huge opportunities," Israel's economy and industry minister Nir M Barkat told reporters after a meeting with commerce & industry minister Piyush Goyal. Goyal said that the two countries should seek a 10-fold jump in bilateral trade, which was currently "sub-optimal".
