NEW DELHI: The ministry of civil aviation has appointed HDFC and Hudco as independent consultants to assist the government in developing 22 non-metro airports across India.
The firms are developing revenue-positive models — involving private sector participation — to modernise airports. "A committee has been constituted in ministry and we have included professional institutions like Hudco and HDFC to help us develop various models for upgrading 22 non-metro airports," civil aviation secretary Ajay Prasad said.
Models under consideration include a proposal to upgrade and retain government control over airport management, but include private sector in developing city-side facilities in Airports Authority of India (AAI) land.

The private sector will be invited to develop facilities like hotels, hospitals and shopping complex.
