GAIL starts India's largest green hydrogen plant

NEW DELHI: State-run gas utility GAIL has started the country's largest green hydrogen (GH2) project based on the latest PEM (proton exchange membrane) technology at its Vijaipur complex in Madhya Pradesh, becoming the first company to launch megawatt-scale operation for producing what is referred as 'fuel of the future'.

The 10MW (megawatt) plant, built with an investment of Rs 231 crore, marks a major step towards achieving company's target of net-zero status by 2040. The unit uses Canadian PEM electrolysers and will produce 4.3 tonnes per day of GH2 with a purity of 99.99%, the company said.

GAIL is currently sourcing renewable power from the grid under the open access policy.
