COIMBATORE: Representatives of micro, small, and medium enterprises (

MSMEs

) in Coimbatore say they have started to see

inquiries

for orders from people who used to buy from China and are expecting these to convert into orders.

Also, MSMEs catering to the automobile sector were starting to see an increase in orders, and so did those who cater to government orders, said industrialists.

After the Covid-19

lockdown

was implemented, MSMEs here faced lack of orders, fund crunch and absence of workforce.

S Surulivel, president of Railway Suppliers Association (Rasa), said they were getting inquiries for export orders from countries abroad such as Brazil.

“They have inquired us whether we could do a component which they had got done in China,” he said.

Similarly, orders from automobile clients have started to come in, said J James, president of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises (TACT).

“After lockdown was imposed, micro and small units catering to automobile sector were getting only around 35% of their usual orders. Since this month, it has increased by 10%,” said James.

He added that government sector orders were also being released. However, there were no orders from pump industry and wet grinder sectors, he said.

“There are also inquiries from industries that used to buy from China. But we are waiting for them to get converted into orders,” he said.
