Ex-Tata legal chief joins pvt law firm

Mumbai: Former chief legal and general counsel for the Tata Group,
Last May, Shuva Mandal — a young partner from the other leading law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas — had succeeded Vasani as Tata Group general counsel in the wake of the Tata-Cyrus Mistry saga. Vasani had expressed a desire to move into a more strategic and advisory role, the company had then said. Close to a year later, CAM — a top full-service law firm — snapped him up as partner. Vasani, 60, told TOI that he had retired from Tata Group on January 31.
Vasani specialises in company law, corporate & commercial laws, securities law, capital market transactions, M&A transactions, JVs, competition law, employment law and property matters, He is seen as a valuable asset by CAM. In a statement to announce his appointment, CAM managing partner Cyril Shroff said, “Vasani’s rich and diversified industry experience, with a variety of businesses across sectors, would add immense value to our firm and will further enhance our capabilities to support our clients.”
Vasani said, “I am excited about this new chapter in my life and look forward to contributing and adding value to the firm.”
Earlier this month, CAM had created the ‘Corporate Governance Centre’ to be led by 1976-batch IAS officer and former Sebi chairperson U K Sinha, who had joined the law firm’s New Delhi office as Senior adviser.
