Ethiopia volcano ash plumes: IndiGo flight to Abu Dhabi diverts to Ahmedabad
NEW DELHI: Ash plumes of Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano that erupted on Sunday (Nov 23) are expected to be heading towards Delhi and Jaipur. Indian aviation authorities and airlines are keeping a close watch on the situation for potential impact on flights movement starting Monday evening. The plumes are expected to reach Jamnagar around 5.30 pm.
Flights that are to take that route are already impacted.
For instance, IndiGo's Kannur-Abu Dhabi 6E 1433 diverted to Ahmedabad on Monday afternoon to avoid flying into the route of the plumes. An Indian carrier's plane landed in Abu Dhabi and its engines are being thoroughly checked before being released for its flight back home. "We know the areas impacted by ash plumes and are taking detours to avoid flying there," said a senior official of an Indian carrier.

Our teams will continue to assess the situation in compliance with international aviation advisories and safety protocols and take necessary actions as required. At Akasa Air, passenger safety and well-being is our utmost priority."
"We are closely watching the situation. The ashes are learnt to be now moved ng beyond Oman. We hope the intensity reduces as it crosses the land and ocean while heading towards Delhi and Jaipur," said sources. The ash plumes from Hayli Gubbi eruption was very large.
