EEPC India executive director Suranjan Gupta enlisted a number of reasons that may limit India’s engineering exports in 2019-20, including the fallout of GSP withdrawal and imposition of section 232 tariff on steel and aluminium against India by the US, and rising input and transportation cost.

Ravi Sehgal, chairman of EEPC India, also mentioned that the Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal is proactively engaged with the exporting community to deal with the challenging global situation and the measures on which work has begun include providing inputs, especially steel at international prices.

The award function noted the presence of Jagdeep Dhankhar, governor of West Bengal, as the chief guest presenting awards. As many as 50 members were given awards for their stellar performance in engineering exports for 2016-17. Electro Steel, DCPL, Texmaco and Exide were a few of the notable winners from the region.
