CHENNAI:
Dell and Shiv Nadar University on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and drive excellence in research and innovation.
Through this partnership, Dell has set up two laboratories jointly with the Dadri-based (Uttar Pradesh) university to integrate theoretical concepts with practical experience.
Under this agreement, Dell will engage with faculty members at the university to mentor students and jointly work on technology projects in areas such as Big Data, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things.
Dell will also share best practices, introduce students to next-gen technologies, and in the process, help build a future-ready talent pool through continuous exchange of knowledge and information.
The two laboratories sponsored by Dell will allow the university students to gain continuous, hands-on learning opportunities by working on projects related to key business issues and focus on solving real-world challenges.
Hemal Shah, executive director and APJ CIO, Dell India, said, “We are delighted to partner with Shiv Nadar University. The labs are a platform for us to collaborate with the faculty, and provide practical learning experiences for students on cutting-edge technology projects. Businesses today evolve at a rapid pace and technology acts as a catalyst in helping businesses race ahead. It is, therefore, critical to help develop our talent pool to make them future ready. We hope to open up new channels of communication and collaboration to impart quality education.”
The increasing skill deficit in the country is a concern that corporates are coming to terms with. Besides, there is a big gap between the theoretical knowledge imparted in colleges and the actual work. To overcome this challenge, several corporates such as GE, VirtusaPolaris have set up labs, centers of excellence in association with universities to promote innovative thinking and tap into the talent pool.
