NEW DELHI: Turkish Airlines, the national carrier of Turkey, announced commencement of flights on the Delhi-Istanbul route, from Thursday. This marks the airline''s return to India after an absence of nine years.
InterGlobe Air Transport (IGAT), the leading air transport management company, shall represent Turkish Airlines in India.
The regional director for Turkish Airlines, Levent Selvili, said: "Turkish Airlines undertook a comprehensive assessment process before deciding to start operations to India and are confident that travel in and out of India will only increase over the coming years."
"With this, we are also confident that the people and cultures of both countries, will come closer together...
After a serious evaluation of the Indian industry, we selected InterGlobe as our trusted partner and look forward to launching off with them," he added.
CEO and president of InterGlobe Air Transport, Ashok Fenn, said: "It is indeed a pleasure to announce the establishment of our relationship with Turkish Airlines. Over the next few months, we will work closely with them to make their plan a reality."
Turkish Airlines is a premium carrier in Europe. Currently, it offers flights to 103 destinations, out of which 77 are international and 26 domestic. It is supported by a fleet of 77 aircraft. The airline operates from its two hubs of Istanbul and Ankara.
