PUNE: Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pune-based leading anti-virus software developer, Quick Heal Technologies, for co-operation in the area of cyber security. CERT-In is a national initiative to tackle emerging challenges in the area of information security and national level security risks and vulnerabilities.
It is co-ordinated by department of Information Technology (DIT), ministry of communications & IT, Government of India (GoI) in co-operation with several agencies in the government, academia and industry.
The MoU was signed by Gulshan Rai, director, CERT-In and Kailash Ketkar, CEO and MD of Quick Heal Technologies on September 6, in the presence of M. Madhavan Nambiar, additional secretary, DIT. "This partnership would enable us to share our expertise and provide pro-active advice and support to the DIT, GoI, ...and ensure internet security for the Indian cyber community, including public and private enterprises, government and general consumers," said Katkar.Under the terms of the MoU, Quick Heal and CERT-In will initiate collaborative activities in the areas of malware analysis and incidents on internet security. This tie-up would establish Quick Heal as an advisory partner for CERT-In and thereby DIT, GoI.The MoU would ensue technology sharing, technical assistance and information exchange on security issues. It will also help co-ordinate mutual exchange of executive information and execution of a programme that will help educate the cyber community and increase their awareness about internet security.CERT-In provides valuable and up to date information on computer security and provides advice to users and network administrators about responding to computer related incidents. It works in close association with other similar institutions worldwide to resolve computer security issues. The team has tied-up with Quick Heal to draw on the latter's expertise in the area of malware detection and developing malware remedial software, according to Jagannath Patnaik, vice president - sales and marketing of Quick Heal. Apart from helping in resolving breaches in interent security, the anti-virus company will also assist CERT-In in assessing the information security levels of various organisations, he said.
