Covid: Boeing will fund setting up ‘field hospitals in some states as soon as possible’

Boeing

will fund setting up field hospitals “as soon as possible” in some states, as part of its $10-million emergency assistance package for India to help fight the

pandemic

surge here. In the last 2-3 days Boeing India has reached out to states and it is learnt to have so far identified UP, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu for now.


States will give land where the American aerospace giant will “quickly fund building of base hospital and equipping them with emergency facilities.” NGOs like Doctors For You and Care USA will help arrange medical staff — doctors, nurses and paramedics. Boeing is also identifying NGO partners to help set up the field hospitals at the earliest.
“We have reached out to some states for exploratory talks and based on the response for giving and at the earliest, some states have been zeroed in for now. This is an ongoing process and we are seeing how best can we help and how fast,” said sources.

said: “We are in conversations with local and international relief organisations to deploy Boeing’s $10-million emergency assistance package to support India's Covid-19 response. As part of that effort, we’re working with medical, government and public health experts across India to provide relief, including medical supplies and emergency health care to communities most impacted. This is one of many such emergency health care facilities that we are working to set up in India.”

Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa, for instance, is learnt to have promised to prove land near Yelanhanka where Boeing can quickly set up the base hospital.
