Cafe Coffee Day brews plans for Europe debut
BANGALORE: Even as the world's biggest coffee cafe chain Starbucks prepares to enter India, its biggest desi rival, Cafe Coffee Day is brewing plans to enter a place many call the coffee capital of the world - Vienna.
The cafe chain, which has over 250 outlets in India, is making its maiden entry into the international market with the launch of a cafe in the Vienna on November 24.

The company, which had previously announced plans to have 50 cafes in 10 global locations, said the immediate focus would be to set up a chain of cafes in Austria, and in the neighbouring Germany and Switzerland.
"If the first cafe is a success, we'll move quickly to create a big chain," Cafe Coffee Day director Naresh Malhotra told The Times of India.

The effort places the chain amongst a select set of Indian retail brands, including Hidesign, that have set up exclusive stores in developed Western markets.
Austria is estimated to have the highest per capita consumption of coffee (8 kgs a year) in the world. Vienna has a couple of hundred coffee cafes.
Most of these are locally bred ones, but more recently, international chains like Starbucks have entered the market.
It is this steaming hot market that Cafe Coffee Day is entering.
