British royal family’s crockery supplier brand, Thomas Goode, lines up India expansion
NEW DELHI: A 200-year-old British luxury tableware brand Thomas Goode is expanding in India and plans to tap into the growing appetite of the wealthy and affluent for ultra-luxury names and products.
Thomas Goode has a history of supplying fine tableware to the royalty, including the erstwhile Indian maharajas, those in Europe and the Middle-East. It even crafted the dinnerware for the then Prince of Wales and Princess Diana in 1981. British singer and pianist Elton John has been a minority shareholder of Thomas Goode UK.
However, the company had collapsed into administration last year after struggling for years.
The brand’s India business has been acquired by BI Luxury, the developers of Trident Residences in Delhi in association with The Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.
The brand is aiming to tap into India’s growing market for bespoke tableware and high-end gifting, particularly in the wedding sector.
The India expansion will be led by Angelique Dhama, Director of Thomas Goode India and CEO of Obeetee Carpets.
Dhama said the decision to shift Thomas Goode’s retail presence from The Oberoi Mumbai to The Oberoi Delhi is led by prospects of better business in the national capital. “Indian consumers are familiar with the brand, its heritage, and its exclusivity.”
Thomas Goode differentiates itself with customizable tableware, including personalized monograms, crystal vases, and fine bone-china adorned with 24-carat gold. This appeals to India's luxury wedding market, where heirloom-quality pieces are in demand.
Shashank Bhagat, Chairman of Thomas Goode India, said the store in the national capital will offer a tailored shopping experience and display collections of fine china, silverware, and crystal from world-renowned brands, including exclusive collaborations with Dolce & Gabbana and Haviland.
