BRIC 2025: Ministry of Cooperation teams up with Indian Rice Exporters Federation; aim to strengthen rice sector

The has joined hands with the (IREF) for what is set to be the largest rice event, (BIRC) 2025, in a bid to strengthen the country’s rice sector.

Alongside the conference, three major initiatives will be launched: a Coffee Table Book on Indian Rice, and Vision & Roadmap for rice sector contribution to Viksit Bharat @2047, a document outlining the future strategy for India’s rice industry.

Prem Garg, national president of IREF and chairman of Shri Lal Mahal Group, welcomed the partnership, saying, "We are deeply honoured to have the support of the Ministry of Cooperation for BIRC 2025. This collaboration is a landmark moment for the Indian rice sector and a strong endorsement of the critical role cooperatives and grassroots institutions play in our agricultural economy."

The IREF highlighted that the partnership reflects the government’s increasing focus on empowering cooperatives and grassroots organisations within India’s agricultural value chain, especially in the rice sector.

The collaboration is designed to showcase how cooperatives and self-help groups can support the rice economy, making it more inclusive, resilient, and market-ready.

It also falls in line with the Viksit Bharat@2047 initiative, which aims to double farmers’ income, boost agricultural exports, and ensure food security through institutional development.

By working closely with government bodies, the partnership will support the interests of the entire rice community and strengthen India’s presence in global agricultural trade.
