CHENNAI:
BJP national council member and former chief of the party's
Tamil Nadu unit
L Ganesan
filed his nomination for
Rajya Sabha
from
Madhya Pradesh
on Friday.
Talking to TOI over phone, Ganesan, 71, said he was "simply overwhelmed by the support from the Madhya Pradesh unit with chief minister Shivraj Chouhan proposing my name and several MLAs, including ministers, seconding it."
Asked if he had been sounded for a ministerial berth in the Modi government, Ganesan declined comment.
Ganesan, who was nominated by the party, replaces former Union minister for minority welfare Najma Heptullah who renounced the seat following her appointment as the Manipur Governor.
He is expected to be formally declared elected on October 6 after the mandatory withdrawals and verification of nomination forms.
