Air India (AI) on Tuesday formed an emergency cell to tackle issues in real time basis arising out of the coronavirus as the airline is operating hundreds of
special flights
across the world. About 150 pilots and cabin crew of AI are learnt to be currently under quarantine after passengers on the flight they operated were found to be
Covid positive
in health checks on arrival.
Another 45 crew members have reportedly tested positive in past few weeks. A senior official said the curve is rising in recent days. AI is set to operate hundreds of special flights all over the world this month.

on Tuesday issued an order saying: “…concerns arising out of COVID-19 pandemic continues all across our country as well as all over the world leading to several emergency situations which need to be addressed on a minute to minute basis. All employees have risen to the occasion and have made us proud by their selfless contribution towards serving the cause.”
“However to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations, regional directors (RD) are advised to set up a 24x7 cell headed by respective RD monitoring all emergent issues of operation of flights. The cell should consist of representatives from operations, engineering, inflight service, medical, commercial and personnel department,” Bansal’s order, which asks for formation of these cells on Tuesday itself, says.
