After Germany, now France says Indians don’t need a transit visa while transiting through its airports to a third country
NEW DELHI: Indians can now transit via France without a transit visa. France has implemented this change from April 10, 2026. Before this change came into effect, Indians with visas from the US, Canada, Japan, or EU were exempt from the requirement of a transit visa while transiting via France.
This move after Germany had this Jan also announced Indian nationals would no longer require a Schengen airport transit visa (commonly called Type A visa) while transiting through its international airports.
In a statement issued Thursday, the French embassy said: “…. with effect from April 10, 2026, Indian nationals possessing an ordinary passport are no longer required to hold an airport transit visa when passing through the international zone of airports located on French territory. This measure applies to passengers remaining in the international zone during a layover at a French airport en route to a third country.”
“The visa free transit for Indian nationals transiting through French airports in the European territory has now been operationalised by the French Government. This follows an announcement made by PM Narendra Modi and President French President Emmanuel Macron during the latter’s visit to India in Feb 2026. Indian nationals transiting through the European territory of France exclusively by air will no longer require a transit visa with effect from April 10, 2026,” the external affairs ministry said.
