NEW DELHI: Manika Batra has been crowned the table tennis player of the year at the

Sports Awards (TOISA) 2019, powered by BHIM-UPI. The 24-year-old Manika beat the likes of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran to win the award in the fourth edition of the TOISA held in New Delhi on Thursday.

In January 2019, Manika became the first Indian woman to break into the top-50 of the ITTF world rankings.




Manika played a stellar role at the Commonwealth Games 2018 by winning four medals. She was the most successful Indian athlete in the 2018 edition of the CWG.

The Indian paddler then made history by winning bronze in the mixed doubles event at the Asian Games 2018, held in Jakarta and Palembang.
