In the year 2019, the Mumbai batsman etched his name in the history books by becoming the first batsman to hit five centuries in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. He achieved the milestone in India's final league match against Sri Lanka in England. Rohit broke former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara's record for the most number of centuries. Sangakkara had scored four consecutive tons in the last edition in 2015.

Rohit also became only the second Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to score 600 runs or more in a single edition of the World Cup. He finished the event (2019 ODI World Cup) with the most runs (648).

KL Rahul's inconsistency in the Tests made way for Rohit to open the innings in the series against South Africa and the 32-year-old batsman grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Rohit became the first-ever batsman to score hundreds in each innings of his maiden Test as opener. Rohit achieved the feat in the 1st Test against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. Rohit notched up his maiden Test double century in the third Test against South Africa that made him the fourth batsman to hit a double ton in Test and ODI

after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle.
