Anish Bhanwala and women's hockey team forward Lalremsiami have been jointly named Emerging Players of the Year at the fourth Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA), powered by BHIM-UPI.
Anish and Lalremsiami were picked by the jury among other nominees like cricketer
Shubman Gill and shuttler Lakshya Sen.
Anish - the youngest Indian to win a gold at 2018 CWG, was picked for the award for his spectacular outing in 2019, where he won a gold medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl.
The 17-year-old also won a bronze in 25m Standard Pistol and silver in 25m Standard Pistol Team event in the same World Cup.
Making his mark at the senior level too, Anish in 2019, in his first senior championship at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi shot a new national record score of 588/600 in the qualification round, securing a 5th rank in the final.
Lalremsiami shares the award with Anish thanks to her impressive strike-force in the senior women's India team.
A regular now in the squad, Lalremsiami was also recently named the 2019 FIH Women's Rising Star of the Year by the International Hockey Federation.
Setting an incredible example of mental strength and putting the nation first, Lalremsiami, in 2019 continued to play for the country during the India's tour of Hiroshima for the FIH Women's Series Finals despite her father's demise.
The 19-year-old stayed on with the team that eventually won the 2019 FIH Women's Series Finals to enter the FIH Olympic Qualifiers.
Later during the qualifiers she played a crucial role in the team's victory over USA, helping India seal a Tokyo Games berth.
