Having a sleepless night ahead of a Test is something
Sachin Tendulkar got used to a long time ago. To be precise, he's had 198 such nights and Tuesday was the 199th. Given the huge aura of the occasion (this being his penultimate Test), things surely have been different and maybe akin to the day when he sleepwalked ahead of his debut Test in Karachi, way back in November 1999.
A master of overcoming nerves and big-match pressure, Tendulkar has stuck to his 'normal routine' in an attempt to deliver his best and this time too it would have been no different. An eight pm dinner, a team meeting and back to the room. Unless it's a pressing matter, the DND sign outside his room is to taken very seriously.
Tendulkar's bedtime routine is set too. He ensures there are enough water bottles to keep him hydrated through the night. His bats are all in place (usually five of them) with which he indulges in some shadow practice before lining them up around his bed. The bed itself is preferably draped with white linen, which he diligently tucks in himself.
A religious individual, Tendulkar also keeps pictures of Lord Ganesha and Puttaparthi Saibaba and of his parents with him in their lap by his bedside.
What follows next is the customary phone call to wife Anjali and kids – Sara and Arjun. Once he's wished them good night, the master retires for the night. His wake up call is at 5.30 am and he seldom needs an alarm clock.
Surely, it wouldn't have been easy in the current scenario to sleep easy. Tendulkar, nonetheless, seems to still love 'sleepless' nights.
