Black Sugar. That''s the only thing on DJ Bipin''s mind right now. The music junkie is focussing all his energies on this movie made by Bangalore-based youngster Kanchi.
"It''s a 90-minute film made by a student from Wigan and Leigh, but it won''t be released in theatres," says Bipin. The DJ, who is working on the movie''s soundtrack, says that the film will be shown in city halls in February.
"I will be working with three others — but the team isn''t decided as yet. Some of them will be professionals," explains Bipin, who''s really excited.
He''s read the script and has already planned what he wants to do. Definitely no released music. "There will be ambience, fusion and Indian music. We will use a few loops, baselines and beats from here and there. There are lots of ideas waiting to happen, but we''re not sticking to any particular genre of music," says Bipin.
The young DJ is also back from a short work-cum-pleasure trip to London, Amsterdam and Ibiza where he went to see the latest in music trends. He just can''t wait to play his newly-acquired record collection for Bangalore''s music-crazy crowd.
"I went to buy music and see what''s happening in the music scene," says the 24-year-old, who''s also the resident DJ at 180 Proof. In London it''s drum and bass, in Amsterdam it''s lounge and funky House and Ibiza, his favourite, has a little of everything.
"Personally, trance is my favourite. But I had to go to clubs that play all kinds of music. I went during end of season, so I can just imagine how crazy things would be during high season," he laughs. Bipin happened to glance at a poster which mentioned all the big names that would play during high season.
"These are people whose albums we''re currently playing in Bangalore!" he says. Bipin started DJing when he was 18 and got a lucky break at Manipal, where he played at a club. "They had professional equipment and so I really got to experiment. It was a great opportunity for me." After that it was JJs, The Club and now 180 Proof. Bipin also plays for various gigs. But what lies ahead is anybody''s guess. "I definitely want to play for another 10 years, but first I want to make my own music for movies and documentaries."
