Style watchers have been tracing the changing look of David and Victoria Beckham. BT gets the expert view BE it the diamond stud he wore to meet the Queen, or her body-hugging leather pants that got style-watchers talking , David Beckham and Posh Spice have always made a splash with their style statements. They might not have a combo name like TomKat or Brangelina, but they sure have a massive wardrobe between them.

Their identical fashion sense sometimes makes them look like twins, but they never stick to the same look for too long.
In '98, while taking their wedding vows, both sported floppy hair, which was replaced by a spikier style the following year. The identical leather gear they wore to a party in 2000 made more news. And in 2002, both coloured their hair peroxide blonde, which became a chestnut hue in 2003. And in 2007, both of them reached for the scissors and a shorter style. Obviously, a whole lot of effort goes into the Becks-and-Spice style show, but there are mixed views on whether the results are impressive.
Designer Wendell Rodricks dismisses them as a couple that tries too hard. "You need to be subtle about the brands you wear, but they believe in exhibitionism. David is a good-looking man, but can do with a little subtlety. Victoria is tacky and too anorexic. Besides she doesn't go that extra mile to look classy. Being a Brit, she can indulge in the best brands, but she wears Roberto Cavalli and Versace. Roberto is such an old man, and his clothes don't do a thing for Posh. She was better in her Spice Girls days since there was something exclusive about her. But lately we've had an overdose of her," he says.
Designer Sabyasachi agrees, adding that they have no defined style. "David is still tolerable and is a style icon for a lot of men. But Victoria comes across as a wannabe who looks like a pinhead . She's just a rich woman married to an equally rich man. Becks can carry off any hairstyle because of his jawline. But the mohawk style didn't suit him. He should decide if he wants to play football or endorse brands," he comments.
In spite of the criticism, they continue to be style icons for many. Star lensman Subi Samuel says it's not so much their clothes, but their celebrity status that gives them acceptability. "Both of them are eye candy. People take a keen interest in them, thanks to the British tabloids. I feel the short hair's looking better on Becks. As for Posh, I don't rally know what works for her. But the fact is, they can make a fashion statement even in tattered jeans," he says.
Celebrity hair stylist Adhuna Akhtar gives them a thumbs up for just that. "I like them since they change their style so often. Becks, of course, is an icon for his hairstyles. I've had a lot of men asking me to give them a Beckham cut. Personally, I don't like very light hair colour. But since Becks is light skinned, it suits him," she comments. And does the short hairstyle work for Posh? "She has the kind of face that can carry off virtually every hair style," she adds.
