Supermodel Cindy Crawford recently said she used cosmetic surgery to look good. Are stars finally admitting they aren't born beautiful? IF you thought she can't look this fab naturally, you're spot on. Supermodel Cindy Crawford owes it all to her cosmetic surgeon. Last week, the 40-year-old shocked people with the revelation that she's been getting cosmetic surgery since she was 29 to keep her skin youthful.
She said, "I'm not going to lie to myself. Past a certain age creams work on the texture of your skin but in order to restore elasticity, all I can really count on is vitamin injections, Botox and collagen."
Even Zoom television anchor Pooja Bedi had no hesitation becoming the poster gal for Botox. Pooja publicly admitted that wrinkles weren't her thing. Before her, Desperate Housewife Teri Hatcher said that she had been Botoxed, but admitted that she hadn't got anything done for more than a year. And when Samantha of Sex and The City appeared in an episode post a chemical peel session, she said it was time to get open about cosmetic surgery.
And that's exactly what people are doing, says skin expert Mukta Sachdev. "I've had Botox done and I admit it willingly — a couple of lines on my face were bothering me." She isn't the only one talking about it. "I've had people in my clinic telling others that they've come for Botox; probably because it's become more acceptable." Mukta, however, says the one thing many people still hesitate to talk about are more personal 'jobs' like a breast or butt job... ... "But Botox and lip augmentation are perfectly okay," Mukta says, adding, "At least you're being honest; otherwise it's like superskinny people saying they look that way naturally!" According to Pooja, a lot of people portray they're naturally gorgeous. "Not everyone can say, 'I've got something done'. But in my case, I'm proud to say that I've had Botox," Pooja told BT. Does she believe that people are now more accepting of cosmetic surgery? "Yes, because of the increased awareness. If I get something done, I have no problem talking about it. If I see a few wrinkles here and there that I don't like, what's wrong with using technology to fix it?" adds Pooja. The idea of going under the knife or getting help to look better is no longer alien. With television serials like Nip/Tuck, Extreme Makeover or 10 Years Younger, cosmetic surgery has now become dinnertime talk. A recent British study even indicated that people, when asked what they would buy if they could make a major purchase right now, opted for plastic surgery — a choice beaten only by a holiday or a new car. Make up professional Gauri Kapur says she'd respect someone who admits to cosmetic help. "We are a different generation. Even sex is discussed openly. As for cosmetic surgery or Botox, if your body needs it, do it." She adds, "When some celebs talk about it openly, it builds confidence in the common man. At least they know that's how it looks," Gauri says.
