Move over janampatris, for, arranged marriages are now being fixed on the basis of blood-group types...
Planning to get married? Well, rather than getting your kundalis matched, we suggest you go the Japanese way and get your compatibility measured by your blood groups!
The Japanese concept of matching personality traits with blood type, referred to as Cketsu-eki-gata, is now the next big thing when it comes to arranged marriages.

Only, to be doubly sure, the Indian pundits have brought the kundalis in the process.
Says astrologer Amit Kundaliya, "While blood groups lend insight into character and compatibility, the janampatris help us know when and where a person could find the right match."
Adds astrologer Bejan Daruwala, "Fortunetellers in Japan base their reading of a person on his/her astrological sign as well as blood group. Now, India trying its hand at Cketsu-eki-gata."
But how does this work? "To fully determine blood compatibility, it is necessary to cross-match samples. However, compatibility is largely determined by the blood type, and if that is compatible, then the risk of breaking up with a non-cross matched blood is less than one per cent," states consultant Rakesh Tiwari.

However, science does not support the principle of matching blood group with personality traits. As medical practitioner Anirudh Chugh tells us, "An individual's personality is formed by a both genetic and environmental influence and while the blood group is genetically determined, any influence on the personality must necessarily be very small, if it exists at all."
In other words, someone with Group A blood may share character traits with another Group A person, but certainly not because they share blood groups.
So, is this type of personality assessment and matchmaking farfetched? "Not really. After all, there must be a reason why so many Japanese believe in it. Of course, as in astrology, such assessments to find the right life partner could have its own pitfalls," states Daruwala.
