In a recent notification, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has imposed restrictions on the movement of two and three-wheelers, as well as non-motorized vehicles, agricultural tractors, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles, and quadri-cycles on three 'access-controlled' national highways connected to the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, reported PTI. The affected highways are the Delhi-Gurugram section of NH-48, NH-344M, and NH-248BB.

The specified sections include the Delhi-Gurugram stretch of NH-48, starting from Km 14+300 to Km 42+000, NH-344M connecting Bankoli village to NH-44 near Najafgarh, and NH-248BB from Shiv Murti to Kherki Daula on NH-48.

The NHAI cites safety reasons for the prohibition, emphasizing that these highways, developed as access-controlled corridors, have service roads, alternative routes, and existing roads accessible to the public.

These high-speed corridors, designed with maximum speed limits as per relevant notifications, pose potential safety risks due to speed differentials.

The order, issued under section 35 of the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002, prohibits certain classes of vehicles, including two and three-wheelers, from using these highways to maintain road safety.
