HMIL’s plant in Nepal: First model to be assembled

The first model that will be assembled at Hyundai India’s plant in Nepal will be the Venue. At present, a host of Hyundai SUVs are on sale in Nepal, including the Exter, Venue, Creta, Tucson, Santa Fe and Palisade. In Nepal, the Venue is offered with the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine petrol engine that makes 61 hp and 114 Nm of peak torque. This motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The facility will also generate employment in the region while also ensuring ramped up production for HMIL’s models overseas. It is possible that with the local assembling of the Venue in Nepal, the prices for the model might likely go down in the region as CBU import taxes won’t be applicable. However, it is just a speculation for now as there has been no official communication regarding this from the manufacturer’s side.

Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO - HMIL said, “This plant in Nepal has an installed capacity of assembling 5,000 units annually, and Hyundai Venue will be the first locally assembled model to roll off the plant. I would like to convey my sincere congratulations to the people of Nepal for this achievement!”
