Auto component manufacturer Gabriel India recently announced a technical collaboration with Infalfa Roof System (a Netherlands-based company) to develop sunroofs for car manufacturers in the Indian market. Under the partnership, Gabriel and Inalfa will invest Rs 170 crore to set up a new manufacturing facility with the name - Inalfa Gabriel Sunroof Systems (IGSS) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, says the company officials.
IGSS facility will be operational in the first quarter of 2024. The facility will have the capacity to produce 2,00,000 sunroofs per annum in the first phase.
Manoj Kolhatkar, MD of Gabriel and member of the Anand Group’s executive board said that the demand for sunroofs in PVs in India is growing at a fast pace.
Anjali Singh, Anand Group Executive Chairperson said that the new venture will start with supplies to Hyundai-Kia, and is expected to generate revenues of around Rs 1000 crore by 2030. Thereafter, the company will also work on supplying sunroofs to other OEMs, namely Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.
Further, she added, “The move also expands Gabriel's product range and will create over 250 direct and indirect jobs in India.”
As Hyundai and Kia will be the first OEMS to be served with the sunroofs developed by the IGSS plant, there is a possibility that the upcoming Kia Seltos will receive the same.
