EV ride-hailing platform BluSmart gets carbon credit certified: Details
Electric vehicle ride-hailing service operator BluSmart, has achieved carbon credit accreditation by Verra, a global non-profit corporation. BluSmart, in a statement, said that it has become the first mobility company in the country to receive these credits from the CO2 emission reductions generated by its EV fleet from February 2020 to December 2021.
The company, so far, has completed over 300 million all-electric kilometres since its inception, with over 9.5 million fully electric trips. BluSmart's registration in the voluntary carbon markets within the EV ecosystem is also a first in India.
Further, the company said that Fair Climate Fund India, the carbon consultant, played a pivotal role in carbon estimation of this project and helped BluSmart achieve this feat in record time.
Anmol Singh Jaggi, CEO and Co-founder, BluSmart, said "We will continue to work towards building a business that benefits both people and the planet. Initiatives such as these are vital to incentivize environmentally conscious practices and promote sustainable lifestyle through market based mechanisms."
The company, at present, operates over 5,000 EVs in two urban megacities of India - Delhi NCR and Bengaluru.
Electric ride-hailing cabs contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions primarily through their zero-tailpipe emission feature, minimizing the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. This shift to electric vehicles decreases the overall carbon footprint of the transportation sector, thereby mitigating the environmental impact and improving air quality in urban areas, especially when pollution is becoming a big concerning issue in Northern India lately.
